Abstract

from here to there is an exhibition of photography by alumni of the Arts Institute at Bournemouth, formerly Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. The exhibition is a celebration, which brings together recent graduates with some already well-established names in the industry. The exhibition offers an insight into the distance travelled by these photographers and comprises one image from their graduate portfolio alongside examples of their current work. from here to there will cover fifty years of photography from our graduates.

These include Philip Townsend, Nick Knight, Michael Birt and Wolfgang Tillmans with over twenty other successful photographers representing a selection of photographic talent from Bournemouth, who have achieved success and who are working all around the world. The career of Philip Townsend spanned the iconic period of the 1960s. He photographed many key figures of this era including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Michael Birt started his career in the 1970s and is one of the leading portrait photographers of his generation, specialising in portraits of celebrities including Alan Rickman and Harrison Ford. Nick Knight began his professional work in the 1980s and is among the world's most influential fashion photographers. Wolfgang Tillmans has become one of the most prominent and influential photographers to emerge during the 1990s and won the Turner Prize in 2000.

It is proposed that from here to there will also exist as an ever-growing w portfolio website, enabling current and future alumni to display their work.
